PORT CHESTER BOARD OF TRUSTEES ADOPTS LOCAL LAW THAT ESTABLISHES CUMULATIVE VOTING TO ELECT TRUSTEES IN FUTURE VILLAGE ELECTIONS SUBJECT TO VOTER APPROVAL

At the August 13, 2018 meeting of the Board of Trustees, the Board adopted a local law that establishes a system of cumulative voting to elect trustees in future Village Elections subject to the approval of the voters at a mandatory referendum.  Cumulative voting has been used by the Village to elect trustees since 2010 and was the favorable recommendation of a resident advisory panel whose report was presented to the Board on April 2, 2018.

“The Board held three public hearings and heard comments from residents on the issues. The Village’s expert and special elections counsel were made available. The referendum is scheduled for Wednesday, October 10, 2018.

“It’s now in the hands of the voters. The Village is celebrating its 150th birthday this year and whatever the voters decide at the referendum will have an impact for the years to come. This is a historic moment.”
